The City of the Village of Minnetonka Beach, incorporated in 1894, is a boot shaped peninsula on 296 acres located on Lake Minnetonka. “The Beach,” better known to its’ residents, lists the population at 614 residents with 230 homes, according to the 2000 Census. It is primarily residential with the exception of the Lafayette Club and St. Martin’s Church. From its opening in 1882, The Hotel Lafayette has a storied history. It was destroyed by fire in 1897. The present club was built in 1924, after a fire destroyed the second building. The name eventually changed to the Lafayette Club.
